First of the new breed of modern image models was the highly
favoured Class 50 locomotive. A few months later this model was followed by the
introduction of the Class 31, a model which continued and developed the
incredibly high degree of quality and modelling expertise set by the 50. The
Class 08 diesel shunter followed next and was universally applauded as the best
ready-to-run model of its type on the market, ever, with its scale speed and
power that matched the prototype. Introduced late last year was the Class 60, a
model par excellence of the rail network’s workhouse. This model locomotive not
only continued to push the already high degree of Hornby craftsmanship to new
levels but set standards in model railways unimaginable only a couple of years
previous.
These
excellent models will continue into 2006 with some superb new liveries on all
three classes. Firstly, for modellers of the current scene, the Class 60 will be
represented by BR Trainload liveried ’Canisp’ with running number ‘60077’. Also
available will be Fragonset liveried Class 31 ‘31452 Minotaur’ plus alongside
Cotswold Rail (’08847’ and ‘08871’), EWS (‘08630’) and Freightliner (’08530’)
liveried Class 08s. Regional modellers can look forward to Network SouhEast
liveried Class 50 ‘Lion’ (‘50027’), and for the BR blue/green era modellers,
there will be two Class 31s produced (‘D5640’ and ‘31111’), and two Class 08s
(‘08419’ and ‘08528’).
Making a welcome return under the Hornby banner will be
several of Lima’s former flagship locomotives. Three examples of the ‘ED’ Class
73 will be released, in striking Pullman (‘Royal Alex’) livery, in partnership
with BR (green) E6003 and GB Railfreight ‘Spitfire’ (‘73107’). Stablemate Class
59s ‘59005 Kenneth J. Painter’
in Foster Yeoman livery and ‘59102’ in ARC livery will be available later in the
year alongside EWS ‘59201 Vale of York’. Finally, the sleek lines of the Class
67 will join the Hornby fleet in Royal Train (‘67005 Queen’s Messenger’) and EWS
(‘67027 ‘Rising Star’) liveries.
